Understanding Your Birth Chart
(A Beginners Guide to Astrology)

In the book, a Foreword explains why this book was written.

It starts with brief information about the background of Astrology, explaining its origins and what it is.

Throughout the book images and colour are used to help readers identify the different parts of this complex subject. An Introduction chapter contains:
• an overview of a birth chart
• what the reader can expect in the booklet
• that knowledge of how Astrology helps in learning life's lessons
• the difference between newspaper horoscopes and real astrology
• a comparison of computer versus personal interpretations

After an introduction to the Zodiac signs, the book covers how signs are a construct of Elements and Qualities. These, and their combinations are shown separately.

Detailed explanations as to how each sign works follow.

The reader is then introduced to the ten planets. Each is shown together with its symbol and the influences for which it is responsible. There is an extra paragraph which covers a special relationship between two planets which may affect individuals.

The various parts of the chart wheel are introduced. To help identification, an image of a chart is shown with a key and examples are given with detailed descriptions. These include the different chart elements, the significance of each one and the effects of planets in chart areas.

Also covered are the associations of Zodiac signs with planets and the areas of the chart and a table showing these is included.

At this point a diagram is included giving an overview of the parts of a chart wheel and planets, using their respective colours and graphical reminders of the different influences.

The book continues with the relationships between items in a chart, known as Aspects. Only major aspects are included. These are introduced with images to help identify the way the influence of each one works.

An explanation of the effects the movements of planets in the sky have on elements in a birth chart follows. These movements are known as Transits and this section includes a list of planets and their transit times.

The penultimate section contains explanations of the remaining parts of a printed chart which haven't yet been covered. These include a chart summary which breaks down all the parts of the chart wheel into a table. A diagram of this is shown with a key and explanations.

I have included a final section called Wrapping It All Up in which I quote lines from an unknown author which beautifully combine all the elements of Astrology into a few words.

The book finishes with appendices, index and a glossary.
